Jump Rope
A Story by Mylasia McWilliams
He picked up the jump rope on the swing set out in his backyard. He kept staring at the second floor window. Anger flourished his face rapidly making him tighten his grasp on the jump rope. He starts to walk towards the door, leaves crunching beneath his feet. The ends of the jump rope dragged through the cold grass as he walked slowly towards the door. His aunt was upstairs caring for his 10 month old baby brother. His parents were gone. Vacation for adults they said. He walked into the house entering through the kitchen. He turned a corner and saw the steep stairs that looked like it would take forever to get up to. He started to walk up. His muddy shoes were still on leaving dark brown footprints on the clean beige carpet. He reached the front hallway. His aunt was in his parents room. He could hear her watching some movie. He twisted the door to the right and then quickly to the left. As the door flew open, he could see his aunt staring at him clutching a pillow. Jack! Jack! She screamed as he ran to her and wrapping the jump rope around her neck. She tried to scream but he compressed the rope around her neck that she could barely get a word out. Her hands were flying everywhere trying hard to get a breath in. He tightened it more and more. She was getting weaker and weaker. He could see her eyes slowly drift away. Her arms stopped flaring. They dropped by her side. Her eyes completely shut. He gave it one last squeeze around her neck until he unraveled the rope and let her drop to the floor. Her neck was a reddish purple color. Jack dropped the jump rope and walked to his baby brothers room. He picked him up out of his crib and walked down the stairs and out the door. He was gone.
