Standing UpA Poem by Aimee MahathyIn this time of crisis, my mom won't let me speak. But I cannot sit here and do as she wishes, not with this.
My thoughts are not yours. And they might clash with All you ever have known. But even then, I will not Sit here and remain silent. If you are all about America, Then I’ll exercise my freedom. To say these things, And do what I need. I will not sacrifice my life To satisfy your selfish desires. I long to fly, as everyone should. Though I’ve never tasted That sweet, sweet breeze. Would you rather me give in And wilt among the weeds? Or would you rather swallow Your pride and watch me flourish, As I should? © 2009 Aimee MahathyAuthor's Note
