Child

Child

A Poem by MyInkyPen
"

Yet another dark one.

"

One look is all it takes to drown in a tsunami of fire

I’m trapped in your penetrating gaze, I dare not look away

Ever so delicately, but I feel it still, creeping up my spine,

like a dark, curious spider, threatening, teasing my nerve endings one by one.

Each tiny hair reaches out in a lightning strike, canon fashion.

A cold whisper sends icy breath down my naked body.

I freeze, become a statue erected in memory of a long forgotten child.

My eyes are prised open wide with focus, empathy and fear,

my lips ache to move but my words are lost to the wind.

My pulse beats a melancholy rhythm under my ashen skin,

I can’t feel your heartbeat, I’m not even sure you have one.

Your body’s cold and your dark eyes appear lost and lifeless,

I long to touch you, hold you, to know you’re still breathing,

but I can’t reach you, I can’t hear you, I can’t help you.

Pray, tell me what to do, how can I save you?

Little girl in the looking glass.

Whoa, totally surprised me in the ending. This is so strikingly beautiful.

Gah! You have such a beautiful range of vocabulary and have the talent of using it to great use. The attention to detail is magnificent and the story is sad :( Good write
