The Ugly Within

The Ugly Within

A Poem by Michael W.
"

It was a gloomy day and I've dealt with people hating me for no reason - people that don't do anything other than socialize and drink and have no ambition in life. This is my ode to them.

"

The Ugly Within

“It’s an ugly day outside and the weather is gray,

gloomy, no chance of sunshine.

The Ugly Within,

Begotten by the ugliness outside.

There are no rays of light

peering through their mundane

faces of mediocrity;

they beget The Ugly Within.

The atmosphere is cold.

Their hearts are even colder.

If they even have heart;

If they can even feel the cold.

In my face, they see -

everything they hate.

In their faces, I see -

Hate for themselves,

Their lost ambition,

Their over-socialization.

I see - their psychological profiles

that have been subject to

grimy acquiescence.

Their misery loves company.

Do not let them guide you to

The Ugly Within.

Your light shines,

beyond their uniform hatred,

beyond their capabilities,

beyond their capacity for love.

The Ugly Within themselves

is neither your burden nor business.

If they cannot see your light,

let them remain in dark submission

and let their light remain forever extinguished.
