Poisoned ChaliceA Poem by MwashShe was the one, My mother warned me about, Yet my sweet mother’s words, Went pitifully unheeded, Attempts to edify my resolve, Ended in abject failure, I couldn’t get enough, Of her striking beauty, I was deeply taken, By her nubile charms and wiles, In her presence all else, Equated to nought, I had foolishly taken a tumble, Nothing betwixt my ears, Love had caught me, In her strong tentacles, And I gladly went in, With nary a struggle, I have paid for my folly, Paid with my heart, It now stands irreparably shattered, I drank from the poisoned chalice, Of life’s most beautiful emotion, Love.
