PAINFUL MEMORY

A life cruelly snuffed out,

An uncertain future compounded,

The cure to a killer disease,

Lost in senseless strife.

A once peaceful neighbourhood,

Destroyed by irrational hate,

Neighbours against each other,

Their lives irreparably shattered.

A nation filled with pride and hope,

A shell of its former glory,

Streets once filled with joy,

Now full of cries and sorrow.

A sad, directionless people,

Wallow in endless suffering,

Fields where children once played,

Now graveyards for the little souls.

A society men struggled to build,

Demolished by their own folly,

The beautiful country they once had,

Nothing but a distant, painful memory.
