The dam

The dam

A Poem by Mustafa Merchant
"

Don’t let the emotions flow.

"
When ever there is a driving pressure ,
felt residing and flourishing in you.
It's nothing but a dam,
That's firmly being built inside of you.

It holds a million cubic litres of emotions.
Against an impenetrable barrier of sternum,
Like a peaceful standing structure of an imposter on one side.
Fighting aggressively ,the building force on the other, in order to contain and hide.

The pain transforms into mere efforts.
In ignorance of the sufferings that hurts.
Just when the collision graph of brawl settles.
A deluge of sentiments,
adds to the struggles.

It's the wall of chest that stands firm.
Will not crack to spill the emotions,
whatever nemesis may come.

Those babbles of reactions ,
that goes untold
Is due to fills that raise above
and beyond this dam can hold.

Only the time can measure its strength.
It may continue to hold and withstand.
Or falter to unleash the wrath on every person ,every soul in its path on this land.

And when that day comes.
Heaven and earth will no longer exist.
Blasphemies that no one can resist.
Raising hell will smoke the air.
Burning every soul, for all I care.

This is one of the best extended metaphors I’ve read in a long time. I love the way you use the “dam” as a figurative way to describe how it feels to bottle things up inside. I love your use of “sternum” early on, then later you mention “wall of chest stands firm” – these aspects of your metaphor reflect how it can be almost painful to hold stuff inside without showing it on the outside. You’ve used a ton of good imagery thru-out to convey the way it feels and then your ending seems like a little explosion where the walls cracked & some of the venom leaks out (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Loved the metaphor of a dam. The way you compared heart's emotions with the water and the dam is beyond imagination.
