![]() Regrets of the Damned: Part OneA Story by Musta-Eyolf-Pedes![]() Well, this is the first of three finished chapters of a story inspired by a lecture I gave the room of Role Playing 1 on the Loup Garou.![]()
Shamus was in shock. His father had been brutally murdered last night. His skull had been split with an axe, his limbs chopped away and placed on the wall in the shape of crosses. The men of the fort who had been called upon to haul away the body had crossed themselves, muttering prayers of forgiveness and mercy for their lost friend.
The Captain of the fort stood by, watching them as they did. John Claude was standing some distance away. "That's the third one this week. We can't keep doing this!" At this, the physician, a graying, withered looking man, looked up from his seat. "What do you expect us to do, Claude? We have no idea who this could be." "It's simple Murphy! We quarantine part of the fort every night until we find the right one." "And how would we find out exactly who is killing us?" the Captain interjected, looking shamed as the body of his best friend passed by him. "I... Don't know... Wallace... But we need to do something!" "There is nothing we can do except double our patrols and hope that whoever it is, isn't one of our gunmen." Shamus passed by as they conversed, eavesdropping, and stopping as he heard Murphy ask, "But how has he been getting around after curfew without being caught?" He looked at the doctor nervously, as the three men turned to look back at him. "Do you need something, boy?" Wallace questioned. "No sir... Jus', I over'eard the old man's question and though' tha'... Maybe, I can answer i'..." The men exchanged nervous smiles, before the Captain responded. "Then by all means, answer." "Well... I was... Exploring ou'side the for', and I found a tunnel. I wen' inside, and i' led me underneath the for'. There's a secret passage under every one of the buildings." Wallace stood, staring incredulously at the boy. "And it didn't occur to you to mention this earlier?!" "No sir... I was... Using the tunnels..." The Captain sighed, obviously irritated. "And you put yourself before the lives of the three good men we lost to that b*****d?!" Shamus seemed to shrink beneath the man's anger, looking at the ground. Murphy placed a hand on Shamus's shoulder, looking at Wallace. "Easy Captain, he's just a boy. He probably didn't even realize tha-" He was cut short by Wallace. "Ignorance is no excuse! Boy, get to your house now. The curfew is almost in effect." The man sighed --Shamus weakly starting back to his room-- and looked up at the silhouette of the moon as it rose, pale and perfectly round, a stark contrast to the purple sea of light caused by the setting sun. © 2011 Musta-Eyolf-PedesAuthor's Note
