Open the Doors

Open the Doors

A Poem by Jock Engelman

I see and I get that we seem to fight;
Despite that you and me, we are just right;
I know, because I know the real you;
I know, because you know the real me;
And with you I feel weightless and so free;
I'm a bird who's not ready to be caged;

I wish, desire and want to be yours;
And I am not ready to close those doors;
I want the time to take your breath;
I wish to take you high away from this;
Like you used to every time we kiss;
Because this world is too painful to travel alone;

My girlfriend recently broke up with me to save the friendship we had for 20 years before we got together. This is what I'm planning to read to her as a speech when I give her flowers and chocolates.
