The Sounds of the Night

The Sounds of the Night

A Poem by Jock Engelman

Hearing no one answer the phone
Would be alright if pain left unbeknown
Would be alright if I didn't hate myself

Hearing the automated voice here
Would be alright if I didn't disappear
Would be alright if it wasn't the last

Hearing my sobbing fill the air tonight
Would be alright if this was my first night
Would be alright if I could understand why
