Spring Festival-Part 3

Spring Festival-Part 3

A Chapter by Dennis

Night progressed and the brightly lit tavern grew fuller, louder, and rowdier.

… “Sweet breads dusted with cinnamon”… sniff sniff … “candied yams” … sniff … “apple brandy” … sniiifff … “Ahh, the sweet, sweet smell of bacon, caramelized onions, and potato cakes!”

“Told ya Carlie’s nose is perfect!” Roland yelled over the cacophony of shouting and singing voices.

“Well are we gonna spend all day smelling the food or are we gonna feast?” Jonah asked eyeing the candied yams.

“mmph? Mell I umm gomm mu mmea mo I monn marr.” Announced Greg through a mouth full of potato cakes and onions.

Plates filled with the foods Carlie identified lay before the four friends.  The friends sat together for a feast at sunset, their own tradition to help survive a long night of drinking, dancing, shenanigans, and, possibly, lots of running.  Carlie wore a new sea shell and blue topaz necklace purchased earlier in the day and Roland sported new boots.  Jonah and Greg did not purchase anything, but somehow they acquired new belt pouches and wine skins.

Jonah cleared his throat to get the tables’ attention, “Another spring has come and we’re still here to enjoy the beauty to come! Cheers!”  Jonah, Roland, and Carlie raised their glasses and drank; Greg raised a slice of bacon and gulped.
