Darkness in the Light

Darkness in the Light

A Poem by MusicLove93
"

Kind of about how depression feels, searching for something.

"
Turn out the light and let the darkness consume you,
As the darkness takes over, your vision disappears.
A sudden fear surges though your body, sending shivers up your spine.
Fear of the darkness; of the unknown.
You stand there for a moment, paralyzed by the shadows surrounding you.
What or who they may be you know not.
Their identities hide withing the impending darkness.
Soon though, you push aside your fear just long enough to run.
Where you are going is unknown.
Light; the ability to see is what you seek.
Even the dimmest of light would do.
You just want something that can push aside the darkness,
To push away the unknown monsters hiding within the shadows of darkness.
But, there is no light to be found,
Only the darkness.
You run in every direction, wild with fear until you trip on your own feet.
Now, you lie face down upon the ground.
The fear turns to dread as the realization that the light is gone finally sets in.
The darkness now seems darker than the blackest of black.
Not even the shadows are visible now.
The dread turns into miserable nothingness as you give up.
A huddled mass upon the ground, the darkness consumes every fiber of your being.
It becomes a part of you, and you a part of it.
Your mind finally goes blank as you lay, waiting.
For what, you do not know, but you continue to wait for something.
Anything.
Finally, dawn approaches and with it, the light you so desperately sought,
But it's too late, the darkness has already consumed your inner being.
Though you may be lit up on the outside, inside, you are still darker than the darkest night.
Yet, you continue on,
Hoping that one day, the light will find it's way into you once again.
Until then, you continue on in the light
While you still remain full of darkness.
Waiting, hopelessly waiting for the day the darkness will be filled once again with light.

This is really good! It is very much how depression feels. You have captured it very well. It is interesting because even how it reads feels like emotion is trapped inside, deadened. I know depression well! I also like your style. You express it without trying too hard. That makes it easy to connect with what you are trying to express.
Very good write.

"A huddled mass upon the ground, the darkness consumes every fiber of your being."- I cannot fathom ever being this depressed. You have conveyed the very essence of "depression", in a way that the speaks volumes. Well penned!

touches those inner recesses of the mind that are tucked away and only the person himself truly knows just how deep they go...

I like that thought process and the way it unfolds. The most important part of writing is that the poem or piece employs enough technique to produces an emotional impact. This passes the test NICELY!

Great job. Rikk

Wow! You have captured this feeling so wonderfully. I know only too well what it is like to lie in bed long after the morning has come, not able to face the day, scared that the darkness will completely consume me and trying to remember what the light feels like.

You can not have darkness if it were not for light, and you can not have light without darkness. I like this. thank you

Not bad. Works better as the introduction to a story or a novel in my opinion. Very simple piece about what blackness feels like. Overall, not a bad write.
