A Treatise on Betrayal

A Treatise on Betrayal

A Poem by Nereus Matthias
"

The first para was written a week ago.....Should have finished it then..Damn I messed it up!

"
The thoughts quiver,the vows burn
promises sublimate, like handsome chemistry
The usual taste of febrile hope.

Fumes grow darker
Those once adored are
no longer them

There is nothing left but
memory of the ungrateful
and cinders, ruins of faithfulness.

Betrayal, You're pit cold
Holding me like a former lover,
a trusted one
You bring back my torn-out dreams

I am at your mercy, as you push me into
an endless pit of thorns
I have nothing left, but scars

The empty, cold stare, holds more thoughts now
From chuckle to battle,
from life to death
What Reward is this to the one betrayed !

-- i don't think you messed it up... -- it's an unforgettable piece... -- some of the expressions/images are especially remarkable... such as "usual taste of febrile hope"... "ruins of faithfulness"... "an endless pit of thorns" and "from chuckle to battle"... -- here, the poet seems to have endured an excruciating experience... -- what can one say except that betrayal stabs and wounds brutally...
