Grand vs Simple Kashmir

In Kashmir's land of beauty fair,
Lived people who were free from care,
Simple wooden homes, carved with skill,
Nestled in nature, serene and still.

Marriages were humble, without display,
Love and joy were the only way,
No grandiose show, no pompous affair,
Just happy hearts and love to share.

But now, the times have changed, alas,
Concrete towers rise up en masse,
Marriages are lavish, with no end in sight,
Money spent, left and right.

Murtaza looks around and sighs,
At the folly of modern times,
The beauty of simplicity lost,
At such a great and terrible cost.

He wants to be the voice of reason,
To remind us of our old tradition,
To cherish our simple way of life,
And not get lost in the materialistic strife.

Oh, Kashmir, land of beauty so true,
Let's not lose sight of what we once knew,
Let's remember our simple ways,
And cherish them all our days.

What considered words and fine meter here. True so much throughout this world is based on show, not always because it's the best action but more theatre than heart. I can but hope that behaving as one did in the past, respect, love, kindness and sharing is recognised.
