Lizard

Lizard

A Poem by Kate

My veins tree roots
Pulsing fuel into all nooks
My lungs moss in the seas
An intricate art of bronchioles
Making me breathe
My brain a walnut in a shell
A messenger of the body's health
My hands a lizard claws
So smooth detached
From the earthly force
My eyes paths to paradise
To spiritual oneness in the heart
The mortal pump of my life

This poem makes me think of the intricacies of the human body, and how it mimics nature. Our veins being like roots was a nice touch as well. There seems to be a lot of creative liberties with the language used, and I'm rather fond of it. "My eyes paths to paradise" is a fun line to read over and over again. Granted, I have to wonder about the line "My hands a lizard claws". I think that was one of the few lines of the poem I really stumbled on. I suppose considering the title of this poem it has significance, and perhaps I just missed something that's going over my head. All and all, this is a lovely poem. Thank you for sharing your work with us!
