Not clever enough

Not clever enough

A Poem by Kate

I'm not clever enough
To pull all his threads together
To make sense of his babble
Of conversations at our table
As round as the one in a famous fable
In a room with a flickering medieval candle
I'm not clever enough
To connect dots of continous thoughts
Not tonight without daylight
I only want to cuddle and sleep tight
Leaving the winter blues behind

I come from a time where "clever" was NOT a complement. It was more often referred to as "shady dealings".

As to the poem - the warmth of closeness and the sheer feeling of "stability" in an otherwise "interesting" life are truly points well taken. I have also found few that truly "get" all the innuendoes thrown out there to be gathered "catch-as-catch-can".
