Cheers

Cheers

A Poem by Kate

Should you ever get lost

In the country of

Herds of sheep

Dotting the Malvern Hills

Shepherds paying off their bills

In the country of

Fake beer

Swigged by hooligans

Or else football fans

Just count the costs

Or listen to a word

Full of hints

With which

Everything begins..

It's 25p please

-      Cheers

A pint of beer please

-       Cheers

The toilet is on the left

-      Cheers

Would you like a bag?

-     Yes please, cheers

Cheers inserted

In between my teeth

Like a toothpick

Like a floss

Like a tiny slice of cheese

Like a finger stuck up my nostril

Wrapped in a handkerchief

A flag with the blue-red cheers

Of the Union Jack

Of Saint George

And his cross, lion and rose

Is screwed onto the Briton's land

Into Friday empty streets

Above shops' windows´ frames

By the English hands

To feast on the day

Of the Queen Elisabeth's birth fame

Sipping cheers with milk

Raising her pinkie

So-de-li-ca-te-ly

Allowing herself no fling

Cheers in a washing basket

Cheers decorating a casket

Cheers cartwheeling like mad

Cheers arching like a Hepburn's cat

Cheers forward hurtling

-       Rolling rolling rolling

-       Like an ET-shaped plectrum

-        -Gliding the guitarist's solo spectrum

-       Of cheers over the strings

Cheers in your cereals

Cheers on bread and toast

Cheers with fish and chips

Cheers with sauce and dips

My head is cheersing

Like a nausea feeling

I get every time you cheers me

In the bath

On the phone

In the shop

Over the counter

Passing me drugs

Behind the till

Giving me a receipt hug

Cheers in the idioms

Shouted by all idiots

You drive me cheers

You make me cheers

You scream blue cheers

You propose a cheers

To the newly-wed flees

In a couple of limousines

From the reception's baked

Cheesecake

But please,

Don't give me any of your cheers!

Any of your Cheerios!

Cheers!
