Once upon a perfect day

Once upon a perfect day

A Poem by Mark Hurlin Shelton

Over and up, in my minds eye a rainbow
a sky and a sea and a garden of green
A breeze to blow all clouds away,
I see children play
Once upon a perfect day

Gleeful grins and dreaming eyes
chasing the clouds and climbing trees
playing in mud, and laughing in streams

can we tumble again through the meadows
of our fragrant flopp, cuddled days
to toddle and toy through life again
in the innocence of playful ways

On tiptoe, we touched the sky
explored the trees that talked
into our tipsy truant hearts
Let us live it all again
my cowboy and Indians, my loving peers
in wonder sharing, learning and living free
in the yell of our yes
lets do it again

Mommy I love my world
and we will never grow old
in this never say never of lands
i will stay here and play with my sisters and brothers
mummy oh I, lover of rainbows and roses
Oh I love banana sandwiches

Oh my sweet children
my piglets and poohs
als, if only you could fly your kites
and play here forever
Fly now, and play now, before the dragon wakes
and the starry diamonds of the sky
turn into the blackest coal

always cherish this leaping time
my hooligan cherubs my pixie tribes
stay simple in your singsong hearts
and question everything
that the grownups tell you.
