An Extraordinary Life

l am content
to live this extraordinary life,
to be loved and revered by a man
who fathered me a son

to be the third child born
to Charles and Lena,
the sibling of four

to have written letters from home
to a sergeant l once knew
in Vietnam,
whose young life in contrast to mine
was just as extraordinary

l am content and hopeful someday
to see the Seine river in Paris.
To have my name categorically defined
with the likes of McKuen and Sandburg.

l am content…
l can dream.

While meeting people, who are happy and content, I also become happy. And then it turns out: the world we live in is not such a crazy place as it seems. Life is song: keep on singing! Hold fast your dreaming, dear Kelly!

The fierce amount of platted resolution, it serves a diamon need, well done, good read.

I agree, the last stanza says it all and reflects someone confident and proud of her roots with the strength to fulfill all her goals in life, self-assured of the outcomes knowing she has been blessed. Nice poem

Very pretty. It sounds like you've fufilled yourself and are content, and those are hte people that always stay in our memories as little beacons of hope in a world where everything is surrounded by materialistic desires and petty trends.

I especially loved the last stanza, "I am content/ I can dream"
