The Tenebrous of Evening

The Tenebrous of Evening

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

I've always loved a willow tree...

The Tenebrous of Evening

the willow weeps

with branches low,

a pendulum

sweeping

the tenebrous of evening.

Tenebrous is a fine word choice.
I can picture that willow sweeping as the night closes in. Maybe it's a good metaphor for those of us that are left to do the cleaning housework late into the evening. Sometimes that makes me weep, too.
A beautiful portrait painted in just a few words.

Not exactly a celebration, this one. The willow weeps, the evening brings in a sense of gloom. Perhaps the end of life is being mourned here.

It all its gloom, it's still graceful and beautiful. Thank you, John!
Hi Kelly, I like your short poems that have such grace and meaning… this weeping willow in the murkiness of night I believe is a metaphor for the dark times we face now and maybe for some time to come, well chosen words

An awesome message in this poem. The shadows of war are making the weeping willows cry for peace.
Stop all the madness.
We need the pendulum to swing positively.

I am extremely cautious about calling anything on this Site a 'Haiku' or a 'Tanka', but this certainly has that authentic Tanka feel to it Kelly. And what is Tanka ? Tanka is what happens when you cook a Sonnet to perfection ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Very nice Kelly. Unfortunately I see a poor dog beneath the tree. We had a beautiful weeping willow in our back yard beneath which my father kept chained a poor dog he abused. The situation haunts me to this day. I have very painful memories.

Much is dark and obscure these days. Your words reinforce that feeling that leaves one in the shadows. Always an elegant read from you, my friend.
