The Tenebrous of Evening

The Tenebrous of Evening

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

I've always loved a willow tree...

The Tenebrous of Evening

the willow weeps

with branches low,

a pendulum

sweeping

the tenebrous of evening.

Your gently, magically swept across my words as I read this the second time. Trees are among my best friends and of all, the weeping willow touches me most. Seems it needs theUOP all around, yearns and reaches for whatever is there to add to its more often or not graceful movements. The accompaning picture
is perfect. That newly found word adds a touch of magic!

Wow, where did you find that word? I have never heard it before, and had to look it up.
Great use of an obscure word that is actually being used more often.
Love the visuals of this poem.

I like this poem even more now that l understand where you are coming from.

Enchanting thrift of words in deep emotion. Dewdrops gently resting upon the willow tree. Nice!

Thank you, Forest! Good to meet you!
I so love the look and feel of the willow... so here you've pulled me into that shadowed space. How you capture the quiet sorrow of a weeping willow at dusk. Its graceful, minimalist structure mirrors the gentle sweep of emotion and fading light, like a sweet, somber dance into night.

Thank you so much, Thomas!
Ya know, Kelly?

We've known each other quite a number of years, now … in fact, You 'n Skittles (Dajeena) 'n Tom were my first friends here when I rejoined in '15, from when I was Rascal … remember?
Funny, too, everytime I read one of your poems I ask myself why I wait so long before reading another? Today, it finally dawned on me that it's my favorite way of treating myself to something truly special, by holding out 'til I just no longer can. You know? Like a kid excitedly saving-up all year for that suit to take his girl to the Jr. High prom, to hold hands, and their first kiss.
I think I've come to the decision that I need more treats than I've been getting … whatta you think?

While you're mulling that over, I feel quite obliged to chat about "The Tenebrous of Evening."
How wonderful it is you chose the Willow to fill the imagery of that rarely used, beautifully mysterious word. Nothing could fulfill its true ambiance more concisely than the Weeping Willow. But, this really doesn't surprise me, either, as everything you've ever written has been perfect … this is one of those aspects of You that's always awed me, and being such a longtime poet, I'm not easily awed.
For instance, who else would use a willow tree to "sweep" the tenebrous of evening?
And, who else searches the world for the perfect gorgeous Weeping Willow to grace her poem, or even care that much what her readers think or feel?

Sheesh, Kelly ⁓ you're so special, and you still do it to me after all these years.
I just wanna hug you! ⁓ Richard🖌

The touch of your presence, Kelly, has been distinctly mutual⁓*
Both weeping willow and the weeping angels seen on monuments in cemetery's seem to be popular among dark contemplations. Perhaps they both weep for the evil they know must invade the world.

Your poem is short, yet sets the mood.

Why are one of the most beautiful of trees known as weeping willows?
They are astoundingly beautiful, so I can only assume it's because they saw Trump coming! 😃

I overwhelmingly agree with you, Lorry! On both accounts!
Kelly,
What a stellar thing that we are created with universal attraction so there are certain curves on the human body that register in different places of the heart than the other miundane things do, ofthose few are more lovely than a cascading willow

I echo your sentiment, Vol. It is truly a wonder of nature! Thank you!
perfect word for it. ah, the weeping willow - i grew up with a huge one in the middle of our yard. It was like a giant umbrella, we ate under it summer and spent a lot of time in its shade. my father hated trying to rake up the skinny leaves. your well-chosen words speak volumes.
