The Dance

The Dance

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

The Dance

we’ll leave the chill of winter

on the ground

drink from fluted glasses

the remains of a Sauvignon

we’ll count the stars

we see within

each other’s eyes

then map the constellations

of Orion and Cassiopeia

in a northern sky

and the moon,

the moon shall be our champion

a beacon of light that dances upon

the Delilah in my hair.

Thank you, Thomas. I didn't think anyone was around!
Beautiful poetry, painting a warm picture that made my heart go pitter patter

I'll take that "pitter patter" to heart!
And now that "dancing in the moonlight" is playing in my head!
😃
It also reminds me of the Italian of youth where the guy asked the gal "Are ye dancin'" to which she would reply "are ye asking?" To which the guy would reply "ah'm askin'" to which the woman would say "well ah'm dancin'"
If she was sat down and got up, a cruel trick would be to steal her seat and say "oh thank god. my feet are killing me!"
😃

I think it was Bob Marley who said “forget your troubles and dance.”
Your poem is a beautiful distraction from the never-ending winter up here.

Whatever brings light and warmth to the cold and gray of winter is a good start, right? Thank you, .. read more
