The Dance

The Dance

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

The Dance

we’ll leave the chill of winter

on the ground

drink from fluted glasses

the remains of a Sauvignon

we’ll count the stars

we see within

each other’s eyes

then map the constellations

of Orion and Cassiopeia

in a northern sky

and the moon,

the moon shall be our champion

a beacon of light that dances upon

the Delilah in my hair.

Wow, magnificent poem, loved the style, simple, yet so beautiful.
Beautiful imagery, adding to the emotionally warm connections,.
The act of drinking wine and stargazing serves as a metaphor for romantic intimacy and the shared journey of love.
Loved this poem, quite intimate and warming..

Sending hugs right back at ya, my friend! Thanks, Trace!
The Delilah in my hair, fabulous line Kelly. Speaks to me of a wildness. The wine is finished, their eyes are on each other rather than the stars. The lovemaking is about to get under way. Seductive.

Wow! You are welcome Kelley.
Sounds quite heavenly. I would have to trade the Sauvignon for a Moscato though. I like the sweet. Great read, my friend.

There is a lovely old fashioned feel to this one....and your knowledge of the constellations makes this poem even better! Shades of Samson and Delilah....love that! Lydi***

you describe a magical night, in such sweet words. the fact this verse is short emphasises the fleeting nature of days like this. it's all over, all of a sudden. yet the memories we hold on to, and immortalising this cabal with a poem is really nice. it's sweet and goes down like good wine.
