An Ode to Rain

An Ode to Rain

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

An Ode to Rain

a rainy day

good for a pot of chili

for oversized sweaters

and jeans stressed out

at the knees

a good day

for slouchy socks

and turner classic movies,

the film noirs in black and white

of Bogart

and Orson Welles,

the femme fatales

of Stanwyck

and Hayworth,

Bacall and Crawford.

a rainy day

custom made

for sleeping in

reading poetry by Dickinson

and Ezra Pound

getting lost within

the cerulean blue

of eyes

of you…

Author's Note

Kelly Scheppers
Here is a list of the definitive roles of the femme fatales mentioned above. They are, in my opinion, the classic Hollywood Noir. Barbara Stanwyck for “Double Indemnity”, Rita Hayworth for “Gilda”, Lauren Bacall for “Key Largo”, and Joan Crawford for “Mildred Pierce”.

Yes all the above and on rare occasions for sloshing about like Gene Kelly or floating paper boats! Just a few of my favourite things…

Thank you, Tim! Happy New Year!
I love those rainy days where the only thing you want to do is laze around in PJs, watch movies, romcoms for me, cause they are silly and have a touch of hope within them, and sometimes just watch the rain coming down and see the wonder of nature. It's also a good day to write poetry like you seem to have done Kelly. Thank you for the share!!

do we all live the same life?? no experience is truly subjective, but art is. no one else could have expressed it like that and that's what makes art special.

to be able to tell the same event in different ways and you are absolutely brilliant at it. I definitely found myself and every line came to life with a different story in my head. oh I'm so happy I read this. how sublime a poet can do this! noble!

Thank you, dear Pat! A most joyous Christmas season to you, my friend!
Rainy days are a reprieve.
You get to do what you want to do instead of what you think you should do ... I think :)
Loved it!

Thank you, Dylan! I like your analogy!
The last line really caught me! I love rainy days ...,nothing like good music, an old movie, stretched out on a sofa, reading poetry or just contemplating the cosmos....snuggling under a blanket (with someone who loves you) "the eyes of you".....quite lovely

Rainy days are always good for something, sometimes we want to stay inside and snuggled under a fluffy down comforter other times, ya just wanna get wet.
As always, love your poetry M'Lady.
