Dead End Street

Dead End Street

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Dead End Street

you’d think by now

i would’ve learned

that every attempt

to forget you

has become

a dead end street.

Emily Dickinson wrote 'the brain is wider than the sky,' but here you point out that our minds have ways to torment us. not being able to forget the thing that still hurts, is a trait most human. the price we pay for loving too much. i know i won't forget *that* person ever, and no matter where i go or what i do, my mind will always take me back to her.

It would be good, great even. if they put a sign saying, "dead end, no turn around available, enter here and you will become lost" or something like this. Then perhaps we can avoid these streets... On the other hand, there is "The Streetcar Named Desire", now there is a "dead end" street for you Kelly. Not sure why my warped mind went to this play after reading your poem, perhaps because a lot of dead-end streets are from desire. Or perhaps, it's because your poetry has no "dead ends" and it's a street I love to walk along!! Perhaps you would take my hand and be my guide!!?? er... ;0)

The reference to "you" in this write, needn't necessarily be referring to a person. It could be symbolising even, the nasty illness; which the authoress was understandably relieved to have recovered from. Then again, perhaps we will never know..?

An emotional attachment can leave a large hole in one's self when it's taken away. How unfortunate that most of us will experience that kind of pain sometime in our lives. Very strong words, my friend.
