Drunk in Love

Drunk in Love

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Drunk in love

photography by / Gabriele Rigon

with martini in hand

he stood poised,

wearing a come hither glance

like a well-worn suit.

dallying my Jimmy Choo heel

from a pedicured toe,

i bit the cherry

from its abbreviated stem,

pleasuring in the heady intoxication

of an almond liqueur.

it was the lure of his smile

that beguiled me,

the speared olive in the martini glass

that initiated the parting of lips

the embryonic tryst, of being

drunk in love.

I must wonder if the martini was shaken, not stirred. If so, don't anger him.

I've never had a martini, but thanks John, for the advice. I didn't know there was a difference.

Think James Bond.
Something about this reminds me of Carly Simon and “You’re So Vain”. Maybe because there is rhyme in arrogance and glance.
(With martini in hand,
thousand dollar suit
and arrogance
of a come hither glance)

Sorry, couldn’t help myself

Sounds like a fascination of intoxication too sweet to refuse. They used to serve mint juleps in these parts...sugar water, peppermint leaves, a few drops of lemon or lime and the rest Kentucky bourbon. I no longer imbibe. When I did drink I drank Kentucky bourbon (Maker's Mark) neat. Those Jimmy Choo shoes are going to cost him. I've heard the Devil wears Prada.

As always, your writing is tastefully evocative, a tease as a prelude to the promise of something more. Very classy.

Ladysue, welcome to my page! Wow, thank you so much!
Oh my my. I think I need a long cold shower after that Kelly. And no, I won't be doing the naughty in there, so get that out your head. I haven't played with the rubber ducky in years and well you know it. 😊
What is it about women biting cherries that make guys, and by guys I mean me, go weak at the knees and have some very 50 shades of naughty thoughts? 😊

This has quite simply stirred not shaken me. Not that I know how to be so smooth.
