passing in the hall
barely speaking
apologizing in whispers she couldn’t remember when
the last time he brought her flowers
or held her without provocation
there was hesitation now a disconcerting air,
consuming the want
devouring the need too many winters had turned into spring
too many springs, it was
the last time he brought her flowers.
very poignant poem Kelly. carries a lot of wait to it. as i was reading i couldnt help but think of what my reaction would have been to the poem at various points along the road I've traveled. To be honest at various points i would not have been as in tune, but now with a lot of mileage under these feet it really resonates.
in particular your opening verse. M & I been together along time, and came close to that desperate opening v a few times along the way, but somehow always managed to "remember the flowers" as you put it. Think anyone who's in something, should read, contemplate, and hopefully grow from this one

I enjoyed reading this Kelly, a lot of power in the words here. If you haven't heard the song "Dead Flowers" by Miranda Lambert, please give it a listen. I think you'll enjoy it, too. I love how you can tell a perfectly understood story here with only a few lines. Thanks for sharing!

tugging at heart strings, sure sounds like things have run their course. so emotively told. there's nothing worse than indifference. we become comfortable and start taking things for granted. perhaps familiarity does breed contempt. so poetically well told ... :)

You've hit the nail right on the head, Pete. Thank you!
This is so very affecting... having lived through a fleeting relationship, part of the process to acceptance was realizing we were much further apart during it as opposed to when it finally ended. This is a pitch-perfect example of that. Well done!

I've read EVERY review, and I'm at my wits end in an attempt to expand upon those insghtful reviews . . . allow me this one time, I am saluting them all whilst enjoying a Château St. Michelle Chardonnay, compliments to my home state, Washington .
Excuse me sir, I'll take some of that Chardonnay! Every review, huh? Lol, thank you, Charles.

Keep it for a sultry one I'll be posting soon. You'll need it! ; )
Sounds like too much water has passed under the bridge, so no wonder there is hesitation. Too many winters, too many springs since the gift of those flowers. Still, there may be a chance at reclamation. Stranger things have happened.
ohhh poignant ... i feel left hanging on a note .. one, for your lady, that extends into the night .. such love .. such a long and lingering death of it :(((((((((((((( well done says i! it's still pulsing through my veins, Kelly :((((((((

There you are! I've been waiting to see that avatar. Thank you most kindly, my dear Gene!
there seems to be a rift in this relationship, one that is very distressing..."a hesitation, a disturbing air"....and it probably went on too long, season after season..... until it disintegrated into thin air.
You show us these emotions so well, i feel like I'm part of the scene or at least watching it live....
Terrific Brevity poem, just oozing with discontent and sentiments all at once.....
Best, B
