Cold Comes the Night

Cold Comes the Night

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Cold Comes the Night

i remember when

my vertebrae responded to

the accordion of your fingertips

like a piano in the dark

awaiting a tempo

memories of you

ebb and wane

like colors in an autumn  sky

streaking across fields

of summers long forgotten

i sleep alone now

the moon is a voyeur

no breath upon my  skin

cold comes the night.

You are welcome dear Kelly.
Intense.
I love reading you.it's been too long.
This is gripping.
I was instantly child and lonesome.
The imagery is stark.
Thank you for sharing this.

How wonderful for me to have you here. I have missed your presence greatly. Thank you, Matt!
Very moving piece here, with great images, metaphors and similes. Time, experience and loss all powerfully evoked in an economy of language. The last line sums up what we all face. Well done.
