December Bleeds Your Memory
A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
December Bleeds Your
Memory
Christmases
past are calling
as
I settle into the abyss of darkness,
of
days accumulating
like
a January of snows.
The
realm of your existence
is
forever fleeting,
pulling
me further away
from
the precipice of death,
sequestering
my consciousness
into
the light
for
December bleeds your memory.

It has been a year of immeasurable loss. Let us pray for a better tomorrow, as we gather for another singing of "Auld Lang Syne".

My intent was to write this for the anniversary of my sister's death, but in writing it, I realized how appropriate it was for the year we were all having. Thank you for rewarding me with such a lovely review. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Many blessings to you and yours.

Actually, it did start out as a poem for my sister who died in the month of December, but then I thought of how fitting it was for the year we've all had, and how we've been overcome with death. Thank you for acknowledging that. It was kind of you to word it in the way you did!
