I always thought the word 'poetic' should mean 'something Poe would write.' But I'm a word nerd, and nobody listens to me! You captured in a few short lines the essence of what Poe brought to the word of literature. Well done!

Thank you for reviewing this one, Zoe. I think it's pretty special that you did! And while we're on names, I really love yours!
Thank you for the tribute to Poe. I enjoyed his writing. As adviser to my middle school Drama Club we put on three of his short stories. The children loved them.
Thanks for the reminder.
Take care - Dave
A hauntingly lovely homage to the "Master" dear Kelly. Perfection in Senryu form. Exquisite language and great image and font choice. Poe's works inspired me to write when I was a child-even won a recital contest speaking Annabel Lee. I loved how frightened I could make the audience of middle-schoolers-Ha! I've visited his cottage in the Bronx often and really was able to get a sense of his melancholy there. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

Way back in high school, I became fascinated with his work, and especially his poetry. When we had to recite a poem in 10th grade English class, I chose "The Bells". That's how ate up with Poe I was. A unique man, I doubt there'll ever be another.
Containing a poet of his caliber in 17 syllables was quite an undertaking. So glad you enjoyed it, .. read moreContaining a poet of his caliber in 17 syllables was quite an undertaking. So glad you enjoyed it, Ken. Thank you.
Dear Kelly,
I so love Edgar Allen Poe but there is little that I know but here and now I make my tribute to the Man
and Great Poet:: Me and my Annabell Lee living together at our Kingdom by the sea, we're making love morning, at noon and all night long filling our fantasies plus pleasure till both of our heart's content !
A quite appropriate /timely verse you've posted. So much in keeping with the coming of All Hallows Eve and evocative of the Master of the Macabre. However, over the last decade or so I've tended to shy away from that genre of verse or writings. I no longer want to be "snuck up upon," you know? I just want more light and anticipation of positive outcomes. Anyway . . .

I believe you would be the exception, dear lady. Be well!
It is his poetry I most admire. 'Alone' being a favourite of mine as is shows a different side.
When I was at uni, my dad bought me a first edition, The Raven and other poems, illustrated by John Rea Neill, published by the Reilly and Britton Company in 1910. I cherish it as part of my collection of old poetry books; many of which I inherited from my grandma. A Kindle will never, ever replace the joy of turning the pages.

My first introduction to horror writing as a kid. He was a master. The Cask of Amontillado was my fave. Loved this tribute and the use of macabre. Love it!!
