Metaphorically Speaking

Metaphorically Speaking

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

...a part of who I am

Metaphorically Speaking

I am a poet.

Metaphorically speaking ,

I bleed muted words

and drink the moon.

Kelly, first I apologize for such a late review. I read this one shortly after you posted it and thought I’d left a review.

Yes, you are a poet! And, in these few words capture the magic of poetry, the silent pain we bleed onto pages, redeemed later with the moon’s distant influence. A literal success, I say.

Blood and lunacy wrapped up so beautifully, truly a poet you are. You have full license to develop a drinking problem and die impoverished. Please do create more of these lovely words in the meantime though. Continue to color this world of ours outside the lines.

Your review has left me with the warmth of a smile. Thank you, and welcome to the Cafe!
Great play on that wonderful word metaphor...and an appreciation that our lives goes into our writing, at the same time as absorb the world beyond us... Shakespeare aptly put ' in the same bracket 'the poet, the lunatic (moon influenced) and the lover.'

Oh yes, and less is more. Well done!

I gravitate to being a "lesser" poet. Love the Shakespearean quote - thank you, Jibey!

Thank you, Tom...I appreciate that!
'It's raining cats and dogs,' "she has a heart of gold," Every day metaphors, used by non poets by the million, but as R E Ray says, only a poet can truly capture the magic held in a pen.

...and he is a very wise man, whom I admire. Always a pleasure having you on my pages, Beccy!
I love the way "metaphorically speaking" aptly refers to all of our hopeful aspirations of trying to be truly poetical . . . and at the same time, this phrase also refers to how a poet job is to speak metaphorically. Those kinds of carefully-crafted multiple-meaning phrases are like gold! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you, Margie. Well said, as only you could speak it!
Indeed a poet. You summed it all up marvelously with a touch of romance. Thank you for sharing Kelly.

You are welcome dear poet.
any comment at this point would only be an echo of what others have already rightfully said.... I haven't yet drank the moon, but I do a lot of waving and howling at it.... oh and Kelly, please be careful, those metaphors are very sharp... ;0)

Wasn't it Christopher Cross who sang about the moon and New York City? I think you still have time .. read more
And like you, I drink the moon, but the next day I don't feel so well. If you need anyone to metaphorically bandage you wounds, let me know; poets should do that for each other, there superstar!! Good work. I say work as in people who enjoy their work. Have a good one.
