It's Nearing Autumn

It's Nearing Autumn

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

...my first leaf of autumn

It’s Nearing Autumn

photography by Kelly Scheppers

it’s nearing autumn,

already the wind is turning

my cat sleeps insouciantly curled

at the foot of the bed

where tonight a blanket will lay

in a horizontal fold.

I believe our four legged friends feel it just as much as we do. Thank you, Dave!
Hi Kelly... so you have an unruffled Cat... who has learned a few things from you...
I can imagine... a soft touch and purring its way through each day.
"Already the wind is turning". You are the quintiessental artist of words.
Your mind turns like a windmill in a field of Tulips. truly, Pat

it surely is. you read my mind. thanks for capturing it for us as we ready. i've already begun focusing on leaves anxious for them to start doing their thing. nothing better than the warmth of a cat in bed when there's a chill in the air. perhaps one of my favorites of yours ... :)

...thanks, Pete. That means so much!
Your words ease reality of autumn right into our minds Kelly - have to admit I love cosying up with Autumn evenings and gold leaves under foot on my hat and scarf walks - - -your talent brought back the true feeling of fall - - thanks for sharing your curled and carefree cat too.

Yes! Me too, Cherrie. I'm feeling it in my bones as we speak!
The turning wind, the blanket, the insouciant cat... a few brush strokes the conjure up a whole world. Yes, as September begins to bite there is that change of atmosphere, the sense of summer long lost, of winter ahead. The detail in our existence sometimes says it all.

The was a picture to ponder.

I always find an eloquence to your reviews. Thank you, Jibey!
At the mention of blankets, the temperature starts to drop. A beautiful time of year, but one which can bring a chill. Your lines are incredibly visual Kelly. I can picture your cat snuggling up on your bed. And that extra blanket in case it is required. Your posted image is fabulous. A solitary leaf can tell you so much, especially by its colour. All good wishes. A first class poem.

I love preserving leaves. The color variation on some of them really is striking. Thank you, Chris.. read more
What sweetness you portray. Cat curled so nice and snug ever ready for the coming chill beyond autumn.
You, wrapped in the warmth of your blankets with a kitty to keep your toes warm.

Thank you - Kelly. Take care - Dave

Thank you, Dave. Hope all is well in your world!
Well done, Kelly. There is quite the scene set in these six lines, one I know quite well, with the exception that our 'cat' is a dog but he does sleep at the foot of the bed.
You have set the mood with this one.
