It's Nearing Autumn

It's Nearing Autumn

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

...my first leaf of autumn

It’s Nearing Autumn

photography by Kelly Scheppers

it’s nearing autumn,

already the wind is turning

my cat sleeps insouciantly curled

at the foot of the bed

where tonight a blanket will lay

in a horizontal fold.

The small telltale signs of the approach of autumn both endearing and with just a hint of resignation as we say farewell to those long leisurely days of summer. I can almost picture you walking along the beach somewhere with jeans rolled up and cradling a cuppa Joe in your hands :-) You have a gift for allowing one’s imagination to run. I really loved this write!

I see not raindrops but teardrops, Kelly. (Again, your accompanying image is ideal.) Perhaps it’s the death of summer’s green and the vibrance that accompanies life and warmth. I also read a calm, peaceful acceptance of nature and the promise of another season. Another original piece of art.

It's funny how our pets signal the changes . . . I have a short-haired dog who gets cold easily, so she's already burrowing under the covers! Love your graceful depictions that convey volumes in mood (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Very yummy. You sum up the feeling as perfectly as it gets. Impending autumn, nothing better.

THAT face just made my day! ; ) ...thank you, darlin!
Timeless. Autumn should last like . . . . oh, I don't know . . . . 6 months? One should like to slip under that horizontal fold, snuggle with the cat and entreat her owner into the fold, making for a purrr-fect season.

I think we could all live year round with the temperature of an autumn day. Thank you, Charles!

Just find the best-est blanket to cuddle in.
I remember "almost autumn" days from many moons ago. Of course, in South Florida Autumn is a myth! Your imagery is so cozy and homey. I love the word "insouciantly". Great job, Kelly!

After a hot summer, it was actually cool this morning. Your lovely poem is right on time, conjuring the delights of autumn. Tonight, I shall sleep as soundly as your kitty.
