We were the best of friends

and always told our age with fractions.

We both hated Math and asparagus,

tore away the crust from bread

and started noticing boys in the sixth grade.

We grew up through hand me downs and braces,

through years of sibling rivalry
and the constant humidity of the eastern shore.

We both married then moved away,
named our babies what we said we would in high school
and still exchange Christmas cards every year.

 

We were day and night,
black and white.

And told our age with fractions.

awwwwwwwww that is so very warm and gentle in sisterhood ... through all the jagged rocks you remain .. absolutely love the title and that you close with it ... funny how 15 and 1/2 can be so important .. my Norma is 5 ft. and 1/4 inch ... a fraction that is a very tall deal ;) this line:

well ... height and weight were always on me mind back then ... i didn't break 4 ft. 11 inches and 100lbs until i hit 24 ... barely made it into the Navy ... thought I might slip through a crack and be lost at sea :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I knew about that. I was 5'11" since the seventh grade...didn't like roller coasters too much. Was afraid of getting stuck at the top!

ahahaha 5' 11" ... wow!! what a woman! ;) i never dated seriously until i married at 28 ... i enjoyed going out with all the girls .. one of them was about a foot taller than i and our friends called us Beany and Cecil ... Cecil was her last name .. do you know of the cartoon show https://youtu.be/wJh0ZRNBxc0 :) we had a ball together .. danced the night away we did .. then she ran off with a football hero ;(

Age with fractions. That's kind of a clever and endearing way of saying my other half in a way. Through a simple poem, love can often shine through under the radar. Or maybe not...

I'll tell you a funny. I was 37 twice.
Some along the way of being 36 I rounded up in my mind and was telling everyone I was 37 until my birthday in which my husband and I laughed as I turned 37
