MacArthur's Park

MacArthur's Park

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

It was MacArthur’s Park

where we walked in crusts of snow,

talking of Christmases past

and how welcomed spring would be

with daffodils in a window box.

It was early March.

A northeast wind was beckoning at our backs.

Soon the dogwood trees would be in bloom,

with a hum of mowers ubiquitously heard

manicuring lawns in emerald green.

I think this is better than the other. It says what it should say and flows effortlessly.

I think its a better one, too, Ken. I like the melancholy it stirs. Thank you!
Perfect photo and poem, that harks the coming of spring. With open arms and a warm heart. To take away the chill and gloom of wintertime.

We're definitely all waiting for some warmth! Thanks so much, Dawn!
Spring will come soon to all parts of the US and so many will be happy. You chose the perfect photo to accompany your words here, Kelly. The circle of life continues and the seasons change....but we always have our memories. A bit of poignancy in this one. Very lovely. Lydi**

I feel blessed today, with the friendships and kindness from poets like you. Thank you, Lydi!
A great photo to go with a great poem. I feel for those who have never experienced the change from winter to spring. There is something to be said for the cold and snow...I think of it as the time Nature dials back and the air becomes crisp and biting...then spring comes and the season of hope has returned.
The scene of transition was painted perfectly.
Well done, Kelly.

Fabulous little poem. Very evocative. I found "welcomed' not very smooth and 'welcome' sounding better. You are very lucky receiving so many hits and reviews. Jealous.

perfect pill to still the chill ;) your work has a very natural rhythm .... and ...for me...overall, a delightful reading experience my friend .. growing up in upstate NY the "crunch" holds a bunch ... of memories and emotions ... the stillness of a walk with a friend on a winter's path ... mmmmmmmmmmmm delightful :) pic complements the poem well says i! now when the wind turns and comes from the South .. moist and laden with scent of rain .. is the best! Old man winter looses its icey grip ... i live in Arkansas now and our daffodils have been blooming for a couple weeks now ;p

dear Kelly... daffodils definitely have a way of finding their way when sun beams melt the snow of winter’s heart. The Cardinals show up with their mates in bright red feathers to plan a nest for their young. The Bluejays seem like attorneys approving the choice of homes and
safety measures. The mourning doves say daily prayers as we provide seeds and blessings. The northeast wind beckons as buds begin to wake and stir the movement of daffodils winking undercover. Your poetry has given our wish for warm weather a venue to dance and sing a song of rebirth. truly, Pat

I love having your presence here, I really do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Kelly,
Oh, those late snowstorms . . . how I hated them! Somehow you've put a dash of each season in this poem in very quick order. Walking in snow does seem to elicit many thoughts. That is until your feet get cold and your nose starts to run. How's that for a comment on a very romantic poem!?

By the way: Don't know what park the photo's of . . . but it reminds me of a portion of Washington Park in Albany, NY. (as if you cared! Ha).
