MacArthur's Park

MacArthur's Park

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

It was MacArthur’s Park

where we walked in crusts of snow,

talking of Christmases past

and how welcomed spring would be

with daffodils in a window box.

It was early March.

A northeast wind was beckoning at our backs.

Soon the dogwood trees would be in bloom,

with a hum of mowers ubiquitously heard

manicuring lawns in emerald green.

Ya'know, I am not the sharpest poetic knife in the drawer, but I kinda/sorta intuit that snow is a recurring theme for you. For me/myself/and I, our consensus is that this poem is clearly a daybreak-awakener of hearts, hope, and happiness; a trifecta of blooming optimism, promises, and caffeinated poetic fruition. (full disclosure here, I totally stole "fruition" from john l smith's review.)

What a delightful, colorful promise of spring you present to us. So much better than the bitterness of winter. We've all ready seen the first crocuses and the forsythia have buds ready to burst. Like you, I love spring and its beauty, so different from the beauty of winter.

Take care - Dave

The artwork and the words were amazing. The thoughts of spring tempt us when Winter is holding on. Thank you dear Kelly for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thank you for taking me to MacArthur’s Park. Seems like I just had Spring stroll along the benches and blooming dogwoods. Love the image and your words, Kelly.

Thank you, my friend!
You pack a ton of vivid imagery & you cover a considerable stretch of the seasonal overlap with your well-crafted observations. Great details we can all relate to (daffodils & dogwood!) Love the song your title harkens back to (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good read, Kelly, love that time of year, with still a hint of winter in the air, hand in hand and frozen breathe in air, and the joys of spring approaching,
