A January of Snows

A January of Snows

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...still feeling the chill of winter

"

A January of Snows

syllables and nouns

leap from my throat

in an ebullient attempt

to define

a love

more beautiful than

a January of snows.

Yes, when the snow covers the land it puts us in an alternate state of mind. For a while anyway. I found your snow poem inspiring and was moved to write my own snow poem directly inspired from your words.
Although I don’t think the subject matter of my poem has anything to do with yours. Hahaha
Well anyway here it is:

verb after verb
breaks through my heart
in a lawless escape
to steal
a curse
more euphoric than
a January snowstorm.

No prob, my pleasure. I dig the inspiration around here
Ah, how you even make a world of snow melt in the warmth of your words. There is something so pure about a landscape covered in freshly fallen snow... a place so like an enchantment. Beautifully confessed.

Kelly,
Well written. However, having had lived for many years in upstate NY I found the beauty of those snows faded pretty fast. The ones that came in December were anticipated guests, while the ones that came in March were rather obnoxious leeches that stayed around too long. Still, your poem is welcomed.

It's hard for me to visualize something more beautiful than snow, but since I've only seen it on tv lool, I'll make do with love ;) I love your title phrase btw. Brevity at its peak. :)

Your presence is always most welcomed, Ken. Thank you!
Cardinals dance on my porch railing where sunflower seeds were placed. Cardinals like Valentine hearts remember the snows of January where love was defined in terms of kisses thrown to the north wind in breathless
moments of romantic poetry. truly, Pat

Thank you for your presence here, Mary!
The syllables and nouns sometimes get tangled when they leap too quickly, but that's part for the course when such joy is on display for love. You captured a sweet moment and I'm reminded of young love.
