Ode to Winter

winter calls

pillaging the ground

of fertile soil,

casting my breath

into thin air.

I think brevity is my strong suit. It seems to speak to me the loudest. Thank you, Stella!
You have a way with words my dear. Thanks for the burr images. We live in a canyon passage near I-70 as it leaves the Grand Valley on its climb up the steps over the Rockies to Denver. Winter has been particularly brutal this year as the wind blows down the couless.

You are welcome! Thank you for warm wishes.
If only winter was as brief as this lovely bit of writing. You have conveyed the sense of winter's chill with the somewhat playful act of watching your breath rise on the air. We've had a couple of good snowfalls here, and the temps are about to plunge into the minuses for the next few days. Reading your poem brings winter to life in a very few words.
A good write, Kelly.

Your words are like the warmth of a hug, most needed. Thank you, Gene!
'Less is more' - and these short lines are full of impact. The choice of 'pillaging' was striking and so well expresses the hostile grab of winter cold, numbing the seeds of life, leaving us gasping. 'Casting my breath/into the thin air' - such a vivid image. Beautifully crafted.

Winter has this effect of seeping into and cracking everything. Our breath is but thin air, she pervades our nostrils, numbing it.

Such a vivid, inspiring poem on Winter Kelly. I love your descriptions, the overpowering sense of Winter they leave behind.

Hello Kelly,
Nice to see you are as productive with your lovely descriptive and eloquent poetry as always. Just popping by and saw your read request. Very apt as we await our first snow later today. I indeed felt this one in my bones!
