Ode to Winter

winter calls

pillaging the ground

of fertile soil,

casting my breath

into thin air.

Gee
Tis the time for warm clothing, hats, scarves, gloves and costs that would make an Eskimo sweat.
Your words have me wishing for the sight of an ever warming spring sun :)
Good morning Kelly, hope you are well.

I wish I could, I truly do!
casting my breath
into thin air
I long to catch
the essence of her
upon this tongue........ and then to say, well bloomin done N

Your 'Ode to Winter' is an ode to be proud of, for sure..
loved this poem Kelly... when I took Daisy (Lab/Retriever mix) to doggie day care the other day, it was -2 degrees and her woof words and my Daisy come words froze in mid air and shattered when they fell to the ground... she of course loved the cold and snow, while I couldn't wait to get into the heated car and then home to sit near the heater... lol...

I read your poem when you first posted but came back today to read again and also thinking as I read, damn, how did these words, this poem get placed in my back yard snow??? seems as they flew from Ca to Pa, they somehow froze and landed here... oh and Daisy says 'WOOF", she likes reading poetry in the snow... ;0)

I cannot pathom 50 below! Brrrrrrr!
A beautiful, vibrant chill rises over your words, over the sleeping soil of your winter wonders. And all around here the cold rises to swallow whole every soul that steps outside. May the groundhog see no shadow, and spring overwhelm the air with sunlight. :)

Ah, just so glad you're here! And well... it is below freezing outside... but summer within! :)
Brevity which says much Kelly. I could really sense the sharpness of that cold air. Also pillaging is a great word to use. You have captured winter well..

so powerfully well said. captures the cold, harsh reality. if not for the barren coldness of it, we would not so appreciate summer, huh? i love it Kelly ... :)
