Ode to Winter

winter calls

pillaging the ground

of fertile soil,

casting my breath

into thin air.

And I held my breath reading this....so beautiful....so gentle....so visual. Even though the air here is quite warm, I loved this one! Lydi**

Thank you my friend. We could all use some warmth tonight its bitterly cold out there.
first off, wow, the picture is stunning
paired with the poem it creates such a lonely feeling within a sparse landscape
and I imagine that exhale of breath as being the only reminder of life in a cold scene

Whenever I am on a road trip, and traveling through very sparse land, I always see a lone tree sitting a mile or so off the road and leading up to that tree is the only path for miles. This reminds me of that only lonelier and starker in its winter sleep. This was crisp and clean and captured the feel of the picture and of winter perfectly. My lungs burn a bit just thinking about it and my mind wanders to the thoughts I would have if I were standing there alone listening to the wind and getting none of the answers that I want. Powerful!

Just like that starkly stunning picture, Kelly,
Your words luringly grip our senses, strip them naked, and leave us gasping for the warmth of Spring's tender shoots of life's brilliant colors.
And, as usual, nothing equals the vivid imagery and enthralling creativity of your poetry; it's why I'm left breathless, always wanting more … of You! ⁓ Richard : )

Thank you most kindly, Fran! So good to have you here.
The title of this caught me for sure, since my pseudonym has a verse with a similar title. But it was the image of the tree that kept me here. I love it.

This tree is well worth the stare. I find it quite soothing myself. Thank you, Wesley!
Winter trees are bare except for evergreens...
we only warm up when logs are burning ... and lovers tease of Spring kisses when flowers bloom... Kelly your poetry inspires the poetry of Winter when even lovers hybernate. truly, Pat

Spoken like a true californian! I tend to see winter in stark, brief terms too. It's all about how the ground and the air feel, subtleties that those from winter climes can barely detect. If I can just grit my teeth another few weeks, it'll be as good as springtime here! *smile* Always love to read you, so thanks for read requesting! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
