Ode to Winter

winter calls

pillaging the ground

of fertile soil,

casting my breath

into thin air.

The poem is great but I've had enough winter. Give me sun and sand and a drink in my hand and some steak and shrimp and scallops off the grill. I've got a license to chill. :)

“Casting my breath..into thin air”- pristine words and image. Your poem is as fine as ice crystals falling softly, slowly, dear Kelly. Your image of a solitary bare tree perfectly illustrates your thoughts. Love the personification of winter pillaging, marauding. I raise a warm and cozy glass to you my friend!

Escaping heat and sight of breath. Such a peaceful image that quietly captured in silence. Letting all hear Winters call.

Thin air. One gets dizzy. Kinda sorta how I feel when I read your poems. Another brief peek into your talents.

A rich, full bodied Merlot would love to meet your Chardonnay. Cheers!
I'm so taken by the imagery you portray both in your words and
the pictures you use.

Please tell me, where do you get your pictures?

Take care - Dave

Winter has a way of doing just that, especially when the temperature falls double digits below zero! You pack so much imagery in just a few lines. A perfect description of winter and beautiful choice of words, Kelly.

What a wonderful idea. I can just imagine how it looks :-)
With no "fertile soil" all our lives seem to vanish "into thin air." I use the word "lives" because in the poem you use the word "breath" and breath is life.
This winter poem could very well happen in summer, if you've really been run down.
