Coo of the Mourning Dove

A mourning dove coos

Its mellifluous sound, lulls

like a distant train.

I'm with Einstein on the use of "mellifluous'. Your poem is light and natural. The sound of a mourning dove and a distant train can be sad, yet peaceful. Nice work.

i'm impressed Kelly! you used mellifluous in a poem and it absolutely works says i ... the word itself is called "milk tongue" ...(i am taking a basic poetry class and just learned what that is .. it is when a word or words are pleasurable to speak .. they "roll of the tongue" ... and that one not only is milk tongue ..but it slows me down to kind of linger in saying it ..but experience that doves very mellifluous song ;) well done says i ..i like your haiku a lot ... but the dove song is always a treat for me .. just love it when they call out

Beautiful image posted Kelly. No mourning doves near me and I feel I am really missing out on something. I can only imagine from your lovely words the sound of that soft cooing. How delightful and reassuring that must be. I love birds, and birdsong. We have many where we are but no doves.

I'll take a look Kelly. Thank you.
There's something about a mourning dove that reminds human beings that time is made for love. And they do indeed know how in their breathtaking way. Silky smooth words, Kelly.
