Coo of the Mourning Dove

Coo of the Mourning Dove

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...a haiku

"
...my second nesting of doves!

Coo of the Mourning Dove

A mourning dove coos

Its mellifluous sound, lulls

like a distant train.

there are 5 or 6 morning doves that come to eat the seeds that have fallen from the 2 bird feeder in the back yard... it is a 'cooing' sound that awakens me as I drink my coffee watching them.... but in calling it a "mourning" dove, the fading sound is found in loss and longing.... sometimes as I hear them, I too hear a mourning coo... beautiful haiku Kelly...

I've often wondered why their name is spelled that way, instead of "morning". Thank you, Curt!

So sweet.

My town is a bird sanctuary. The spring is always full of their calls. So mournful yet lovely

I live on a little mountain sideroad named after this bird & also one of my dogs is named after this bird! I love your choice of "train" -- big surprise ending for me . . . had to think a bit . . . then I saw a dove representing freedom of movement, similar to the romantic notion of being a hobo hitching a train. Here's hoping your 2019 is starting out with many coo-karooka-coooo's! *smile* Fondly, Margie

You too Kelly Have a Happy merry xmas!
This dove reminds me of the endurance of love and nature. How we as humans have lost sight of the meaning of that. The patience, the endurance, the want, the gesture. You are exceptional when you bring these things forward in such simplicity and are rightfully called to the head of the table or the front of the class...whichever sways you...and I do believe it's both in your gentle but enduring nature. You are a majestic devoted poet and beautiful seductive soul. Today I give thanks for all that you are and all that yo remind me I am. Many Blessing Kel! Happy Thanksgiving!
