A Cacophony of Silence

A Cacophony of Silence

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

A Cacophony of Silence

notes of cashmere

and languid sips of Chardonnay

complement the evening shade

of another October,

where a cacophony of silence

strums the musicality

of you

A pleasing cameo of a quiet, relaxed evening... hinting at so much more. I wanted 'complimentary to be 'complementary' - the idea of the wine going so well with the evening shade seemed so apt. As for 'cacophony'... it disturbed me - no doubt intended. Was it there to tell me that the relationship with 'you' was strained - a discordant noise penetrating the surface silence? Maybe that was the intended paradox. It certainly spoke to me of familiar times of hope and disappointment.

I believe silence can be deafening, and capable of speaking volumes. I tuned into that, in writing .. read more
Very mellow sensory write, dabbling in juxtaposition. Tastefully done.

You are ever so kind, Margie. Thank you!
You have created the perfect scene in a few short words, and somewhere within that 'cacophony of silence' another heart beats with a 'musicality' that is revealed on a cool October evening with 'languid sips of Chardonnay' and hopefully a crackling fire.

A good write, Kelly.

That word...cacophony....one of my favorites as you know. Great artwork to accompany a deliciously sensuous write, Kelly. I loved the tribute to Lennon too, but you did not have a comment section on that one! Lydi**

I appreciate that John. Thank you so much!
Ahhh, Kelly, these words are magical. When silence strums, then one's ear is in tune with the rhythms of life :) Stunningly done.

I deeply thank you for the kindness this brings me today!
Mmmm...the musicality of you. I really enjoy reading poems like this where nouns and verbs are mixed up to become more than the sum of their parts.
That phrase--musicality of you--evokes times in the past when all five senses were alive and they also got mixed up so that I was completely out of time. I play the piano so this poem reminds me of that, as well.

i've always loved that word - cacophony. this is just so deep and beautiful - dripping with sensuality. you have a way of choosing just the right words and putting them together so that they speak volumes. you say so much with a few choice words. the ending is awesome. title, wording, pic - magnifico ... :)

I know!!!! How cool! : )
I picture an elegant woman sitting at a table quietly contemplating the man that is missing for whatever reason.

I like the C' alliteration peppered throughout which adds to the flow. Your words in themselves are always elegant and done with style.

Beautifully done, Kelly.
