Yellow Noise

my soul has waned from withering need

no sunrise warm to foster me

no yellow noise to lull.

Author's Note

Kelly Scheppers
Did you know there are many colors of noise? Yellow noise is like white. It’s a soft, deep noise used for relaxation, sleep, study, or simply to block out extraneous sounds. There are other colors with little variation, including a pink noise that is used for babies with colic.

Profound there, Kelly! I work with radio frequencies as part of what I do as a "career", so I know a little bout what you're saying, but could never put it in eloquent terms as you have. CD

...thank you, CD!
A peaceful piece with an underlying melancholy that fits a rainy afternoon.

A good write, Kelly.

Thank you for that, Dawn. It means more than you know!
this feels so completely devastating. I know this feeling. I've felt it more than once.
and then you go beyond noise and it's silence, which eventually turns into a ringing or buzzing in my ears.
could just be the lights though (i hope)

I wish I knew about pink noise when I had wee babies.

I was shocked about the pink noise, myself. Thank you so much, Ana. Good to see you!
So much said Kelly in so few words. Much emotion coming through. I've heard of white noise, but not yellow. If I think of what yellow noise would be like, I would turn to a pulsating sun. All that energy simmering away. Lovely words to contemplate.

You are welcome Kelly. Have a good afternoon.
Holy cow...Kelly, this is one of the best short poems I have ever read. I have never heard of the colors of noise except for white, but I will be researching them. that first line is so forlorn and filled with desperate magic and it matches that exquisite photograph perfectly. The second line keeps the mood and plays not only on noise but what the comfort of the sun would bring on days when we feel like this. Thanks for posting this, if you are in Cali today and I am in Phoenix, we are both experiencing this type of day more than likely from the storms rolling in. Great work!!!!

I have heard of this before. There is an old wives tale that you should never do a nursery in yellow because it will over stimulate your child and make them cranky and red/brown is a stimulus of all frequencies and makes you hungry and energetic. I love this pic and short prose...you must be channeling as of late! Ill be back with my coffee to roll in the crunch of this for breakfast in a bit...going tune into some noise for a moment:)

Isn't it amazing how a photograph can pull that energy out of you? Thanks so much, Eve!
At first read, I thought this was looking back on a summer that feels so long ago, but after reading your note, it clicked.
To me, yellow noise brought to mind the moments before falling asleep, where you almost hear sound as if underwater.
It always amazes how you can fit so much thought into so few words Kelly, and so much feeling. Aching words, tinged with regret of yellow deficiency.
Superbly done.
