An Epitaph to Summer

I am bidding farewell to summer.

Muted fragments of June and July
have all been tucked away

like Zuzu’s petals,
and August is tarrying long by the door
dragging its feet like a misbehaved child.

Farewell summer.

We’ll meet again in the serendipity of April,

on the back porch of May

when daffodils commence to bloom.

Where watercolor sunsets

will lead me to walk in skirted hems
the McCartney paths of yesterday.

Your word crafting is brilliant, especially the way you can pick a singular amazing word to convey a ton ("McCartney paths"). I love the way you spill the names of the months like scattered detritus of the various seasons. I'm very tuned in to changing seasons & your poem is a fitting celebration of the melancholy I feel when saying goodbye to summer (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

There are so many highlights to this. Like there are in the year. Its nice that you can see and hear them and give them to us. And carefully look forward to.

I appreciate your taking the time to read. It means a lot to me. Thank you, Ken!
I am going to miss it this year...I fear I hardly saw it smile...but I do love the fall and its fury. Perfect ode to it ....it won't be able to resist the return. I love the back porch in May reference!

Thank you, Eve. You've made me smile!
Reading your words here make me want to fall in love with summer, since I'm not really a summery person lol but this piece is enchanting! Such a lovely read for me (I might as well try to enjoy this season 'cause we still have almost 2 months left here!)

"Enchanting" makes for a lovely review, and my day!
Ah, a farewell to an old friend, that will stay away too long and be missed, and welcomed back with open arms any time they see fit to pass our way again. Sigh. :)

Well, when you put it like that, it makes sense :)
August appears to be dragging its feet into September. Soon it will be time for the harvest and after that, winter snows. Damn!
Alas, we will shiver our way to April and await the glories of daffodils and those wonderful sunsets.

Good write Kelly

Thank you so much, Chris!
"The back porch of May", the "watercolor sunsets' , it all comes glowingly alive, takes my breath away. You leave me with such beauty to reflect upon , to wish it was mine to have and behold. An epitaph so stunning, dear Kelly.
