An Epitaph to Summer

I am bidding farewell to summer.

Muted fragments of June and July
have all been tucked away

like Zuzu’s petals,
and August is tarrying long by the door
dragging its feet like a misbehaved child.

Farewell summer.

We’ll meet again in the serendipity of April,

on the back porch of May

when daffodils commence to bloom.

Where watercolor sunsets

will lead me to walk in skirted hems
the McCartney paths of yesterday.

Reread twice again. O find it quite clever. Fun to contemplate.
Being from "down the shore", Atlantic City, summer meant so much to me. Days full of frolicking on the beach, body surfing in the ocean. Looking, ogling the girls in the bathing suits. The day became evening and there was strolling the boardwalk and going dancing. Holding a beauty fro faraway in my arms. Forgetting that at the end of summer comes the Fall and school.
Renewing old friendships and perhaps, loves. -

Take care - Dave

Lovely! I like the way the months are linked to tangible images which enable you to picture what each month means to you.

I'm quite fond of autumn and winter. Thank you for your time and kindness!
All that is good about summer is really well captured here. These are exceptionally worded lines, and the juxtaposed goodbye and hello blend perfectly together.

Already looking forward to next summer after reading this.

Thank you for a most kind review!
A rhythmic play of words, harping on the delight of summer months and the happiness they bring. A delightful and breezy read.

Best,

Thank you most kindly!
“Zuzu’s petals”- you got me Kelly! I love that movie so much! And “McCartney paths of yesterday”- another love of mine. It truly is a wonderful life from beginning to bittersweet end of summer. Lovely, languid photo with a poem spilling over with ingenious brushstrokes of resplendent imagery and personification of the summer months in every line. Beautiful simile throughout. I will happily “walk in skirted hems’ through fields of blooming daffodils along with you. This should be a song. Master-Class writing my friend.
