Hindsight

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Hindsight

Were they brown…

Were they green…

I know

I must have seen.

i would not have thought eyes from your poem ... men, i will stab at a guess ... are terrible about noticing such things ... unless its someone who especially impresses ... i have made it a purpose in my life to try hard to remember peoples' names ... now .. i am going to check eye color too ;) so thanks Kelly .. you have brought a new challenge to me today ... my children at a very young age 5-6 all were enrolled in Tae Kwon Do ... only one stayed with it into young adulthood but I was with my grown daughter and granddaughter at a summer fair in our small town park and her old self defense instructor had a class there doing demonstrations to promote his school ... now .. this was about 15 yrs after she had taken the class ... i said we had to go say hi to Mr. Hoover and as we approached him .. he looked steadfastly into Rachel's big browns and said...."Rachel?" ... i was astounded .. and he remembered my name too ... he said he does it by remembering the eyes ;)

yeh! Mr. Hoover is quite the human :)
Eye colour normally sticks with me Kelly. Usually the bit I notice first about a person.

I wrote the poem in retrospect of years and lovers past. Thanks, Chris!
I have always thought that the eyes were the gateway to the soul. I may forget their name, but I always remember the color of their eyes.

Especially!
Easily done- sometimes we look so deep we don’t notice the colour but the soul behind the colour- original write- thought provoking🌹

Thank you, Kel. I knew it was brief, but it spoke to me. I really love your interpretation!
"Your Song" (which Elton John co-write & performed, plus I played it often growing up) . . . has a line about not remembering if they're green or they're blue, but anyway, the thing I really mean . . . yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen. That's always been one of my favorite lyrics of all time. I can remember it off the top of my head, after all these decades! So your poem touches on a sensation that's universal & intense (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks, Pete. Always good to see you!
you mean you forgot my baby blues???? I'm crushed... lol... sorry Kelly, I had to tease...

funny how we can remember some things but not others, even though we have stared at them a million times.... I don't remember my high school sweetheart's eye color, but I know she wore Shalimar perfume and I can still smell it from time to time...

'Tis true that eyes can have a short memory, but the heart beats true and is color blind to boot.
