Hindsight

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Hindsight

Were they brown…

Were they green…

I know

I must have seen.

Haha yes! When one tries to take everything in, small details are forgotten like eye colour! Clever write

Lol indeed. Are yours blue?
The title, the image and the words all fall into place for a delightful, whimsical write that totally makes one stop and think. One of the first things I notice about a person is their eyes. Looking into someone's eyes as you talk gives you the feeling of a special connection, even if you have know them only a short while. This one is a true gem, Kelly!

Thank you most kindly, Dara. You always make my day!
Hello love X! I really appreciate the unique artwork/picture you added to this! Striking and thought-provoking!

As per usual, you keep your thoughts brief and allow us to mull over your words, lingering on the questions and pondering of your beautiful mind.

I am a details person.. I looooove staring deeply into a person’s eyes and searching their depths and likewise having someone know me this way too. I like to think that I’ve not forgotten eye colors, and now that your poem has me intrigued I realize that the few people whose eye color I no longer carry with me are the people who mattered little or who didn’t care to truly know or love me. The reality is the people whose eyes I really know are those I’ve loved, cared about or gotten to know well in friendship.

It makes you think how well you really know people and how intentional you are in relationships. I could always be more intentional. Thanks for making me think, dear girlie!! X

There are actually contacts you can wear that'll change the color, too.

I have often run across this. Because I have that shade between green and blue, a lot of people can't remember

Awesome picture Kelly! Your poem is sweet and sad, wistful, questioning... Lovely form and flow with good use of repetition and pauses for impact and emphasis.”I must have seen.”-even if the memory is locked away.... Excellent write.

My heart leaps in bounds with such delight...thank you, my dear friend! x
Sighing in the beautiful essence of the wondering. Reminds me of a quote by Steinbeck: “I wonder how many people I've looked at all my life and never seen.” And the eyes... the mystic eyes.

I'm not sure I've ever noticed the color of someone's eyes as much as how they shined. :)

Precisely. :)))))
This is so sadly true. I never understood why, because they are the most alive part of anyone that you can see more than their colour with. If you ever truly want to understand someone, the eyes have it. But I have been known to remember someone and forget what it was in their eyes that may no longer be visible to the minds eye. Whenever I think of people, and by people I mean exes, it is a very good indication of how we now think of each other, what I see in the eyes my mind conjures. You would be amazed at how many memories that I have now come to me with the blackest, oiliest looking eyes, like the girl in the ring movies :)
