What is lost to the wind

What is lost to the wind

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

What is lost to the wind

I cry

for what is lost

to the wind

for it can never return

from whence

it came

To me, the goal of a very short poem is to pack it with meaning, based on how a ton of possibilities are unleashed in the reader’s mind. Your poem is the poster child for doing just that. It’s not just words on the page, but ideas spawned by your words, which creates a much longer piece of consideration. A very creative way to say that we must keep going onward in life! *sigh!* There are no do-overs, I guess! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is powerful. I've read it over a few times now and still get that same punch of sadness through the imagery, that feeling of loss and inability to rewind.

You are very welcome
The simplicity of your words is really beautiful. I feel it reads like something out of Emily Dickinson's prose.

You've made my week making such a comparison. Thank you, Dianne!
Pretty. But all things must pass. I always said I won't go out like a fading flower but like an autumn leaf; burning brightest before my fall. But even leaves are moved by the wind. I enjoyed the read.

I loved your analogy here, Fabian. Thank you for giving me food for thought!
Succinct and to the point; I find myself re-reading this, filling in the blank space on the page with my own regrets.
